Kenichi Nishiyama(Cello)

Location Yoyogi Uehara MUSICASA

Born in Yokohama, raised in Sydney Australia, MASAKI began his violin studies from his father, Yasuki Nakamura (Honorary President International Suzuki Association Australian) and later from Harold Brissenden through the Suzuki Method. After performing as a support musician for various artists such as the Dixie Chicks, Delta Goodrem, and the likes, he began his solo career in Japan. With his unique understanding of both Japanese and Australian cultures, he began creating music with simple melody line that contained underlining stories and experiences from living in both worlds. His compositions have been described as “sublime melodies”, “The sensuality of expression through the violin” by various producers and music critics in Japan.

He has continually been invited back to Japan, performing across the country.

This time he is collaborating with an Australian pianist - Laura McDonald. She studied with Nada Brissenden and Elizabeth Powell in Sydney before leaving for Italy and Russia where she continued her studies and lived for ten years. She won many local competitions as a young pianist and has played as a soloist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Sydney Conservatorium Orchestra among others. She passed her Bachelor of Music with 1st class honours and was awarded many prizes during her time at the Sydney Conservatorium including a full travelling scholarship to study abroad.

The Day concert will offer a range of light Classical and MASAKI’s heart warming original pieces that will surely entertain the young and the young at heart.

The Night concert will be a time for adults to enjoy the artistic ensemble of Violin, Cello and Piano. There will also be a collaboration with a wine expert to enjoy some Australian wine.
